Job Description

The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (with at least one year completed) or is a working professional with a demonstrated interest in media production, digital storytelling, or communications, along with an interest in healthcare, science, or education. Interns are expected to take initiative in their daily work - proactively identifying meaningful tasks during downtimes and contributing to the smooth running of the program. A forward-thinking mindset, creativity, teamwork, and a “no job is too small” attitude are essential.

The Summer Media Production Intern serves in a creative leadership role, producing weekly highlight videos that capture the energy and impact of HMS MEDscience’s summer programs. This position combines hands-on photography, filming,andediting with project management responsibilities, ensuring each session is professionally documented and every enrolled student is thoughtfully represented. The intern will supervise two student media interns, delegate assignments, manage production timelines, and maintain organized digital media systems aligned with MEDscience branding standards. Strong initiative, professionalism in a youth-facing academic setting, and a collaborative, team-first mindset are essential to success in this role.

This is a paid, full-time internship running for eleven weeks at the HMS MEDscience Simulation Lab, located in the Armenise building at Harvard Medical School. Key Responsibilities

Weekly Video Production

  • Produce one professional compilation highlight video each week representing all MEDscience summer programs.

  • Incorporate appropriate, licensed music that enhances tone and storytelling.

  • Capture classroom, lab, simulation, and student interaction moments across programs.

  • Maintain consistent visual branding aligned with HMS MEDscience standards.

Representation Tracking

  • Develop and maintain a system to ensure every enrolled student appears in weekly media coverage.

  • Track student inclusion across sessions.

  • Coordinate with media interns and program staff to identify and include any missed students.

Team Leadership & Project Management

  • Supervise and manage two student media interns.

  • Delegate photo and video assignments and monitor completion.

  • Oversee weekly production timelines and editing milestones.

  • Maintain clear communication and professional standards across the team.

Media Asset Management

  • Maintain and organize a centralized Google Drive system for all photos and video footage.

  • Implement consistent file naming conventions and folder structures.

  • Ensure daily uploads and secure backups.

  • Curate and tag high-quality photos for future marketing use.

Intern Expectations

  • Interns are expected to take initiative in their day-to-day work, including proactively finding meaningful tasks during downtimes to remain productive.

  • They should be forward-thinking and able to anticipate the needs of the organization, offering help where it is needed without waiting for direction.

  • Creativity, teamwork, and a “no job is too small” mindset are essential, and interns should look for ways to contribute to the smooth running of the program at all times.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with video editing software (Such as: Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, or equivalent).

  • Ability to produce polished, music-integrated highlight videos.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Experience managing digital assets in Google Drive.

  • Ability to work independently while meeting firm deadlines.

  • Professional demeanor in youth-facing academic settings.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior staff and program leadership.

  • Demonstrate professionalism at all times, including punctuality, reliability, and clear, respectful communication with both students and staff.

  • Uphold program standards, as interns will represent the organization’s mission and values in all interactions.
