Job Description

The ideal candidate is a student currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (with at least one year completed) or a working professional who has demonstrated an interest in healthcare, science, or education. Prior lab experience is required, as this position involves supporting lab preparation. A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is essential, and we seek individuals who are organized, enthusiastic, and eager to learn.

Interns are expected to take initiative in their day-to-day work — including proactively finding meaningful tasks during downtimes to remain productive. They should be forward-thinking and able to anticipate the needs of the organization, offering help where it is needed without waiting for direction. Creativity, teamwork, and a “no job is too small” mindset are essential, and interns should look for ways to contribute to the smooth running of the program at all times.

The MEDscience Lab/Forensics Intern, will take on a dynamic role, acting as both a camp counselor to students and a teaching assistant for staff. As a liaison between students and staff, you will ensure smooth transitions between activities throughout the day. In your camp counselor role, you’ll guide students, lead team-building activities while demonstrating enthusiasm and energy. The role also requires leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. You will function as a positive role model and mentor to the students by building relationships and establishing positive connections with the students. In the teaching assistant role, the intern will help facilitate learning experiences and support staff in maintaining an organized and engaging daily schedule through setup and breakdown as well as preparing lab environments. You will be actively involved in hands-on lab prep and helping students engage in immersive, real-world learning experiences.  In addition, you will also be responsible for taking pictures of the cases, skills, and team building activities the students participate in to be shared on social media and used in promotional materials.

This is a paid, full-time internship running for eleven weeks at the HMS MEDscience Simulation Lab, located in the Armenise building at Harvard Medical School. Interns must commit to all eleven weeks from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm each day. If you would like more details about the position, please email elu_tatis@hms.harvard.edu.
